On July 7, 2019, 10 high school students with the teacher Lu Xiaohui set out for a 20-day summer school program called’ Global Citizenship’ in University of Toronto, a famous Canadian University.
After 15 hours’ flight, our teacher and students finally arrived at the Toronto Pearson International Airport. With the help from the summer school organizers, our students checked in very soon.
During the evening, teachers of University of Toronto organized a series of welcome games in which our students got to know more about their future classmates, counsellors and professors. There are 30 students in total and the rest 20 students are from England, USA, Italy, India, Columbia，Japan and South Korea . The Global Citizenship Program is a Pre-University level course.
On Monday, the Academic Director of International Program，the Assistant Academic Director, Program Instructor and teachers all attended the first class to share the core values of the course to students. And the teachers gave students their expectation and emphasize the rules and regulations. Then all the students were divided into two groups to have their communication class.
In every morning, there is a 3 hours communication class. Students get involved in group discussion or debate to discuss some global issues and sort out plans to resolve the problems in a university course level.
During the afternoon, there is a 3 hours workshop everyday. The counsellors and students are all together, doing lectures, discussion, games and activities to get deeper into the values of global citizenship.
During free time, University of Toronto has organized a variety of activities and trips. Students have visited the CN TOWER, the Royal Ontario Museum, Ripley’s Aquarium and Niagara Falls, which aids to help students know more about the culture of Canada.
